  • A Scratch of Writers Community Gathering

It’s important for people who make stuff — especially writers who often work alone—to get together and shoot the breeze.

A Scratch of Writers* is exactly that—a free, casual gathering where creatives can connect. There will be free books and lots of seltzer.

This one will also include a new feature: Story Time with Dr. T. Story lover Dr. T will select a short story that attendees can read in advance and come ready to discuss if they choose—it’s totally optional! The story for September is Claire Keegan’s So Late in the Day.

*At the first one, we voted on what a group of writers should be called. The winner was “scratch.”

Location: Launch Chapel Hill, 136 East Rosemary St, Chapel Hill, NC (next to a parking deck that’s free on Sundays!)

    Sunday, September 22, 2024, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

RSVP here (you’ll get specific directions the day before)

  • Live Storytelling Class at the Carrboro ArtsCenter

In this class, we’ll explore the art and joy of live storytelling (like The Moth or The Monti). We’ll mine our memory and experiences for true stories to share and learn techniques to make them entertaining and meaningful. We’ll get comfortable telling stories in a group setting and on stage, make new friends, and hear some amazing stories.

This class is for anyone who has a story to tell, wants to feel more comfortable in their body, and is ready to use their voice (or wants to be ready!). It's appropriate for all levels of storytelling experience, with beginners especially welcomed.

The class will conclude with a final performance that will be casual and celebratory. Students are invited -- though not required -- to participate.

    Tuesdays, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, from 9/17/2024 - 10/22/2024
Final performance: Thursday, October 24th, 7:30pm.
